THE CONSTITUTION

(Revised 2022)

ARTICLE I

This association shall be called the Florida Senior Women's Golf Association

ARTICLE II

The objectives of this association are to encourage friendly competition in golf among senior women players and to hold an Annual Championship Tournament in either the third or fourth week of October and such other events as the Board of Directors shall decide.

ARTICLE III (members)

  • Section 1  Any woman golfer who has reached the age of fifty years and is a member in good standing with a Florida Golf Club with an accredited slope is eligible for membership, provided she is a legal resident of Florida or a Florida property owner and has a handicap of 36.1 or less. Membership is open to handicaps over 36.0 but handicap will be adjusted for play to 36.


  • Section 2 The membership of this association shall be unlimited.


  • Section 3 Any member may be expelled by the Board of Directors after notice to her of the charges against her and after she has had the opportunity to be heard.


  • Section 4  If any member cannot participate in the tournament  for whatever reason,  she must pay her annual dues to remain as a member.


                     ARTICLE IV


  • Section 1 The Officers shall be a President, a Vice President, a Secretary and a Treasurer


  • Section 2 Theses officers shall be elected at Annual Meeting for a minimum three (3) year term.  


                        ARTICLE V


  • Section 1 The affairs of the association shall be conducted by a Board of Directors under the chairmanship of the President.


  • Section 2 The Board shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Past President and appointed Directors representing various areas of the state. The Directors (e.g. Tournament Chairwoman, Area Chairwoman, Prize Chairwoman etc.) are appointed positions at the President's discretion and serve one (1) year term. They may serve more than one (1) term.


                   ARTICLE VI


Annual dues are payable annually when members receive Dues Notice enclosed in the President's letter in March


                 ARTICLE VII


The Board of Directors shall conduct a tournament under such rules and arrangements as may be provided by the By-Laws and by action of the Board.


                     ARTICLE VIII


The Constitution may be amended by a Two-Thirds vote of members present and voting at the Annual Meeting. Copies of the proposed amendments shall be given to each voting member a minimum of twelve (12) hours prior to the meeting.



BY-LAWS

ARTICLE I

  • Section 1  The President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected at annual meeting by majority vote of those present and voting.


  • Section 2  By May 1st of each year, the President shall appoint a Nominating Committee of three (3) members in good standing, two (2) of whom are Board members or former Board members.  The committee shall designate a slate of officers to be presented to the membership at the Annual Meeting.  Additional nominations may be made from the floor.

ARTICLE II

  • Section 1  The President shall preside at all meetings of the association and of the Board of Directors. She shall appoint the Area Chairwomen and such committee chairwomen and assistants as may be needed to carry out the affairs of the association. For example: a Tournament Chairwoman, Prize Chairwoman or others. 


  • Section 2  The Vice President shall, in the absence of the President, perform the duties of the President. The Vice-President is in charge of all social functions.


  • Section 3  The Secretary shall take charge of all correspondence belonging to the association. In her absence, a Secretary pro tem shall be appointed by the President to perform her duties. She shall also keep all records of the proceedings of the association, and of the Board of Directors meetings, keep a roll of membership, and full record of all contests helps under the auspices of the association.


  • Section 4  The Treasurer shall collect dues, reinstatement fees and all sums due this Association and shall expend the same under the direction of the Board of Directors. She shall report, in writing, the state of the finances of this association, when so required by the Board of Directors and at the time of the Annual Meeting shall present a full report of all matters pertaining to this association, including the receipts and expenditures of all monies received by her during the year.


  • Section 5  The Tournament Chairwoman will be responsible for conducting the Annual Tournament, according to the plans approved by the Board of Directors.


  • Section 6  All officers and chairwomen retiring from office shall at her earliest possible date, not later than January 1, deliver all money, accounts, records, papers and other property belonging to the Association to their successors and receive receipt from same. 

ARTICLE III

  • Section 1  One (1) meeting of the Association will be held in the Autumn each year at the time of the annual Tournament. It will be known as the Annual Meeting. The time and place of said meeting will be decided by the Board of Directors and due notice will be given to all members.


  • Section 2  There shall be two regular meetings of the Board of Directors - one in the Spring and one preceding the Annual Meeting.


  • Section 3  A special meeting of the Association may be called by the President or the request of the Board of Directors.


ARTICLE IV

  • Section 1  The Tournament will consist of 3 days as follows:

                    a) Member may select to play two (2) days of 18 Hole Championship Stroke 

                         Play for 36 total with gross and net for all flights; OR two (2) days of 

                         Stableford format for 36 holes total with suitable prizes for all flights.

                    b) The first 18 Holes of the tournament will include: Grandmother, Non-

                         Grandmother, Great Grandmother and other sponsored competitions

                          listed on the Tournament Schedule with appropriate recognition.

                    c) The Third day of Tournament format to be determined by the Board and                                                                

                         Tournament Chairwoman, with suitable Prizes.


  • Section 2  A state handicap card showing a verified GHIN handicap index and your course handicap will be accepted.


  • Section 3  All competition shall be played in accordance with the rules of golf as adopted by the U.S.G.A. with such rules as are in force and published on the course over which the competition takes place.

ARTICLE V

The by-laws may be amended at any regular meeting by a two-thirds vote of all active members present, provided that written notice of each proposed amendment shall have been given to the members present a minimum of twelve (12) hours prior to the meeting.
